High Power for Drones, Ignitors, LED/HID Illuminators, and More

Ultralife's engineering team recently conducted tests to show the high power you can get from our 13Ah Primary D Size Single-Cell Battery (the U10026), which has a typical max. discharge of up to 20A continuous.  Even after 10-20 years on the shelf, this battery offers high performance in many Government and Defense applications, as well as Drones, Ignitors, and High Lumen LED/HID Illuminators.

Non-rechargeable batteries have a higher energy density than rechargeable counterparts, meaning greater energy for less weight.  This makes the U10026 ideal for powering expendable, one-time drones where low weight and extended run time are critical but payloads still demand high power.

In modern gas burners, batteries replace the button that had to be pressed to cause ignition (piezo igniters).  Instead, a key is turned (for safety) and batteries generate the electrical spark needed.  Battery-powered igniters are often considered more reliable than piezo igniters because they create a stronger, more consistent spark.  Non-rechargeable batteries like the U10026 are commonly used over rechargeable alternatives because ignitors do not require a large amount of power and are not in regular operation, so do not need recharging frequently.  The U10026's typical pulse capability of 20A means it can reliably deliver a high current for the short period of ignition.

Another application where the U10026 is beneficial, High Lumen LED/HID Illuminators are often found in security applications or on construction sites.  It is important that these are brightly powered to scare off intruders or enable construction workers to work safely at night.  UB123A’s pulse capability means that it can deliver more power in lighting applications where brightness is critical.

These are just three of the many applications in which the U10026 can be used.  Other government and defense applications include armament, missiles, torpedoes, and optical weapons.

The main features and benefits of the U10026 can be seen below and the full technical datasheet is available to download here.
